Rebounding Gravity: A New Metric for Second-Chance Suppression

Box-outs are counted; their effect on where a rebound falls is not. Rebounding Gravity measures how much a defender bends the distribution of misses toward his own team, independent of who collects the ball.

Early results are intuitive at the top and surprising in the middle: several ‘poor rebounders’ by raw totals grade out as elite suppressors of opponent second chances.
